So Sorry BBC but you cocked up..

I got to Mum's yesterday in time to sort a Sunday lunch for the family
and get us all seated ready to watch the Jubilee Pageant on the Thames.   I was eagerly looking forward to seeing fellow bloggers aboard  NB. Indigo Dream in the narrowboat section but sadly very little  TV coverage of the narrowboats was broadcast.
Sorry to say this, but the BBC really got it wrong.  Hour after hour of inane, uninformed commentary from the BBC presenters. I found myself becoming increasingly irritated by the drivel and exasperated but the lack of continuity in the visual coverage.
A fantastic effort by all those that took part and the stoic crowds that lined the route and cheered them on.
Well done the Queen,
Hip hip hooray to you!!!

  1. Couldn't agree more, I think I'll apply for a refund on my TV licence fee for such awful presentation!!
Good job the assembled boaters knew what they were doing and they did so well given the weather conditions :)

    1. Hi Kevin
Best of luck with the refund mate.
The organisation of the pageant was top notch, the support first rate and the boating awesome..

  2. Lesley - heartily agree 100% with this - we had the family here all day yesterday so we recorded the pagent, and we are so glad we did! We also spent a lot of of the time looking for nb Indigo Dream but didn't spot her at all! But at least we could fast forward through the boring bits! I said to Rog while the commentators we drivelling on about a 'waterways authority', that it was nice to know more about the subject than they did! Far too much boring content with the same few boats being shown over and over again. Full marks, though to all those who took part, and our admiration goes to the poor singers on the top of the Philharmonic's boat, who looked like drowned rats, but were still singing their hearts out right to the very end. 1. Hi Pip & Rog
The participants were great but the BBC had me shouting at the telly - a truly awful effort, D minus, must try harder!

  5. Hear hear! It was like they'd grown tired of it all by the time the narrowboats and the cruisers came through and most shots of them were very distant ones. Even the commonwealth flag boats got short shrift - any airtime seemed to be reserved for boats that had some mediocre "celeb" on board. What a badly put together bunch of shopping channel reject presenters who just didn't gel and knew diddly squat about anything waterways related. I didn't spot Sue either, or any of the four cruisers I knew, such a shame.

    1. Hi Alleycat
You are so right about the latter part of the filming of the convoy, they did seem to have lost interest. It was a BOATING extravaganza for goodness sake, surely the BBC could have got presenters genned-up on what they needed to comment on BOATS!!not bl**dy cupcakes!!

  6. Hi Lesley,

Totally agree with your views and all of your readers! A great missed opportunity. Far too much petty chat and not enough boats!

Watched some of Jubilee Pageant at Crick Boat show which went superbly despite indifferent weather. Day 4 tomorrow - but has been very good so far.

    Cheers,

    Evelyn and Graham B

  7. Hi Evelyn and Graham
What a contrast in last nights coverage of the Jubilee Concert, the BBC did a grand job.
Hope the four Crick days are worthwhile and enjoyable for you both, feedback from bloggers who has visited has been quite positive. We should have been a Crick with Yarwood really, such a shame Stuart (Barnowl Narrowboats) decided not to go this year but there you go...
    take care both
    X Lesley
