Essex Island

In Essex again this week visiting Mother.  Today with the best weather of the weekend forecast I took Herself for a ride through some beautiful Essex villages and lovely Maldon town.   We went northwards to Mersea Island, (Essex coast east of Colchester) where we visited with friends holidaying there.  This is apparently the most easterly inhabitated island of the UK and reached  by a causeway called The Strood.

I took some photographs of a couple of Thames sailing barges moored in West Mersea - failed to put in a memory card in the camera though...doh!

  1. Did you hear any Mersea-ites referring to it as 'The Island' (they like to think it's the only one, and that they're special).
I always like to reply, 'what, Canvey?'
    Does encourage disdainful looks though.

    1. Now why doesn't that surprise me?
Canvey gets referred to as 'The Island' as well in fact I think I referred to Canvey in that manner when I lived there..

  3. I think the post is a pedantic reference to the page header about cruising "the canals" with no mention of rivers.

P.S. Is it only the camera that needs a memory card?

  4. Mersea Island is about 50 miles WEST of Lowestoft the real most easterly point of England where the sun rises first.

    1. Hi Brian
I have amended the post to read 'island'. Apparently it is the most easterly inhabitated island.
