We are moored no more than two miles from Hinckley but there is no broadband signal to speak of so I have abandoned the photo upload for tonight.
We moved up this morning and watered the boat at Limekiln Bridge, immediately south of Hinckley, got a couple of wash loads on the go and continued north towards Stoke Golding where there was reputedly somewhere to get shot of rubbish. We moored just short of Stoke Golding on a decent stretch of Armco and post lunch we walked along the towpath to find this rubbish depository and have a look around the village. The village shop at Stoke Golding is no more having closed a few months ago so tomorrow's crossword fix is in jeopardy unless I can find somewhere else to get a Times... Choices are either cycle to Higham-on-the Hill - the hill bit is a worry though, or back into Hinckley where there is a Morrison's this side of town apparently.
We got some good news today, we had confirmed that we have a winter mooring at Union Basin in Market Harborough. This the first time we have taken a winter mooring so we will see how we like it. Market Harborough is a lovely little town with plenty of independent shops, pubs and restaurants and a train station so getting out an about will be fine.
So that is about it for tonight, off to prepare a 'skinny day' dinner (fast day today) in a moment and surprise, surprise it will be mushroom based...again. I ordered four field mushrooms from Tesco on Monday and when the order arrived I had actually ordered four packs of four mushrooms! Idiot.
So Joe and I are working our way through our fungi feast meal by meal by meal; tonight it is mushroom stroganoff.
Ha! We had mushroom stroganoff on our skinny day too. Our mushrooms are freshly picked from the park. There are fairy rings of mushrooms all over the place. Good news on the MH winter mooring. We will be looking forward to visiting you there rather than stalking you in the middle of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteAnd we will be looking forward to seeing you both. A trip to Leicester for a very special curry is on the cards!!

Hi Lesley
ReplyDeleteYou can get your paper at the Club just round the corner from the shop. The gentleman from the village shop at Higham on the Hill parks his car in the Club Car park and sells papers, milk and bread from the back. He is hoping to buy the village shop.
bob and June
Thanks Bob
DeleteJoe went up to Higham and got a paper and we bought lots of fresh food from the lovely farm shop at bridge 23.
Lesley
Hope you have a lovely Winter in Market Harborough. We love the town and have many friends there having done the coal run for nearly 4 years. We are in Warwick this Winter and looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteHugsss Jo x
Thanks Jo . We are looking forward to a stay in MH. I hope you enjoy Warwick.

I thought they weren't doing winter moorings for specific places this year -- or is MH different because it's almost a marina? Anyway, nice place to spend a while.
ReplyDeleteHi Adam
DeleteThe moorings are arranged through the people who have the hireboat/basin management franchise. I think it is a franchise anyway.
Lesley
Your right Lesley. The moorings in the basin and on the towpath are arranged with the hireboat company in the basin. For Caroline and Patrick who now run the franchise, it will be their first Winter of sorting out Winter Moorings. I hope they do not have a Winter like Debbie did last year with complaints from the residence. There were problems over smoking chimneys. I am sure you will have a lovely time there, usually Acen (Jo and John), Idunno (Gill and Don) and On Golden Pond Again moor in the basin for the Winter so you will be in good company. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. I hope all goes well..
