Wednesday thru Thursday

Having arrived back on Tuesday from a round of family visits we had arranged to stay in a hotel in Rugby for the next three nights.  On Wednesday morning after our first night in Rugby we arrived back at the boat where Joe set about scrubbing out the gas and pin lockers and giving both a coat of bulge paint.

In the meantime I set to  dismantle the bulkhead between the galley and the saloon and remove the heath stone.

 And there it was gone!

The entrance to the Imperial War Museum and the 15" naval guns that dominate the view

On Thursday we caught the London Midland service from Rugby into Euston and made our way across London to Lambeth where we planned to visit the new WW1 exhibition at the Imperial War Museum (IWM).  We had both spent years commuting to London for work but we are just Sooo delighted that those days are behind us!

The IWM was heaving.  Access to the new exhibition, that had opened for the first time on the previous Saturday, was by timed tickets but even that didn't help the congestion.  Joe persisted and saw the whole thing while I abandoned less than have way round and found a wall to lean on and await Himself.

I spotted this exhibit and thought of Keith on Nb. Hadar who has been blogging about this prewar (1934) childrens toy.  For you Keith!

Retro fitting

We decamped last Thursday having stripped Yarwood of cooker, woodburner/stove, carpet, chairs and port side cabinets from the saloon and left her in the 'tender' hands of Roger Farrington of Braunston Boats and his angle grinder and welding torch.   We arrived back this afternoon to find that Yarwood now boasts  an  enlarged gas locker hatch and cover.  Work here included a guard for the gas regulator to prevent potential accidents with errant 13kg gas bottles as they are  hauled in and out of a confined space.  The locker lid is now in a pleasing grey primer but it will soon to be painted in raddle red after Joe has scrubbed out the gas locker and treated the innards to a coat of bilge paint.

We now also have a new slide hatch and doors that will give access from the tug deck into the saloon.  This is something we should have specified when Yarwood was built but you live and learn and pays an expensive penalty for the retro fitting!
In the next few days we anticipate (read pray) that the internal alterations necessary to accommodate access into the saloon and the necessary making good will proceed a pace.  I will update tomorrow..

For Sale...

No, not Yarwood!

We are about to have some changes made aboard Yarwood and to accommodate these changes we are selling some items.  We intend to place them on Ebay next week but here they are on the blog first.

First up, two Wilsons Captains chairs.  These are two and a half years old and in good condition, Ox blood colour, footstools NOT included.   They retail at over £500 each and we are looking for £250 for the pair.

Also to go is our Lilyking 5kw red enamelled multi fuel stove. Also two and half years old.  This retails at £669 and we are looking to sell for £250. The rear firebrick has a crack but otherwise it is in very good condition.

And finally, a Cannon Connemara LPG cooker, 500mm wide, two and half years old and retailing for £341.  Selling for a £100. This cooker originally came with a glass lid. However it was removed as it could not be opened against the tumblehome.

We are in the Braunston area and all this items will be available from next week.  If anyone is interested email me at: elesk5411@gmail.com
